Racial Equity Fellowship in Patent Diversity Research

As researchers and advocates in the field of patent diversity, we understand the value of having diverse perspectives engaged in research and development. Diverse teams benefit from the experiences and ideas of people from different backgrounds which can lead to more effective product designs, more thoughtful and nuanced research, and more imaginative solutions to problems. As such, we believe that the field of patent diversity research can benefit from the participation and inclusion of more researchers from diverse backgrounds and have created the Racial Equity Fellowship in Patent Diversity Research as a step toward this goal.

The Fellowship is targeted for members of racial and ethnic groups historically underrepresented in patenting and patent research (e.g. African Americans, Alaskan Natives, American Indians, Hispanics or Latinos, and Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islanders). It is a one-year, part-time appointment which aims to provide supplemental support for advanced PhD candidates or early career PhD researchers to engage in a pre-defined research project exploring issues in patent diversity. We hope that the Fellowship will not only provide the Fellow with the opportunity to expand their research portfolio, but that it will also engage the Fellow in an active community of like-minded researchers, program leaders, advocates, and policymakers.
